Level 1 Functional Skills in English
OCR has been at the forefront of developing functional skills assessments. This experience has given us a unique insight into what functionality means to assessment design. This qualification assesses speaking, listening, communication, reading and writing. It is also suitable for those who wish to apply their English skills to a range of unfamiliar contexts, through discussions, exchanges, texts and through written communication.

Functional Skills English Reading

Functional Skills English Reading is designed to equip learners with the skills needed to demonstrate their reading skills in various contexts both in and out of work or education. For example an English Functional Skills reading qualification enables learners to accurately read, interpret and follow written instructions.

Functional Skills English Writing

Functional Skills English Writing is designed to equip learners with the skills needed to execute their writing skills with confidence within work and day to day life. This qualification develops the skills needed to communicate via writing effectively and correctly.

Speaking, Listening and Communicating Skills Component

Functional Skills English Speaking, Listening and Communication allows learners to demonstrate their progression in interacting with others. Providing them with a skillset that is transferrable from a working environment to social situations.

The Speaking, Listening and Communication component in English must be internally assessed through controlled assessment and externally moderated by OCR.
