Level 3 Certificate for Ambulance Service First Responders

The purpose of this FAQ Level 3 Certificate for Ambulance Service First Responders is to provide both Community Responders and Co-Responders with the skills, knowledge and understanding to provide the appropriate care prior to the arrival of an ambulance.

This qualification contains two pathways;

Level 3 Certificate for Ambulance Service First Responders: Community Responder:
Are volunteers who attend emergency calls as directed by the ambulance service to provide the appropriate and necessary treatment to a patient before an ambulance arrives. They are sent to specific types of medical emergencies by the NHS ambulance services, and respond to patients in their homes, workplaces or public locations.

Level 3 Certificate for Ambulance Service First Responders: Co-Responder:
Where partner organisations, for example, Fire & Rescue, Police, Military, RLNI, Lifeguards etc. work in partnership with the Ambulance Service to provide a rapid response to immediate life threatening medical emergencies. This is usually in locations where the partner organisations will be able to get to the call more quickly.

This qualification is Category E on the FPHC PHEM Skills Framework:

Nationally certificated non health care professional pre hospital provider caring for patients as a primary role i.e. may give medication. i.e. More specialist UKSAR trained personnel, some military personnel and some D13 Specialist certificated police officers.
