Qualification overview
The purpose of the FAQ Level 4 Certificate in Intermediate Response Emergency Care (RQF) is to provide Learners with the enhanced skills, knowledge, and understanding required to carry out extended patient assessment and triage, manage life-threatening emergencies, and support senior clinicians in the care of patients.
This qualification includes the advanced management of medical and traumatic emergencies, enhanced triage skills, and preparedness to respond to major incidents. It was developed in response to national recommendations following major incidents, reinforcing the principles of the three Ps: Preserve (life), Prevent (deterioration), and Promote (recovery).
It aligns with the staffing requirements set out in the Purple Guide and meets the standards of the First Aid Awarding Organisation Forum (FAAOF) and the Health and Safety Executive. It is classified as Category E on the FPHC PHEM Skills Framework – Nationally certificated non-healthcare professional pre-hospital provider caring for patients as a primary role.
This qualification is not a licence to practise. All interventions must be performed within individual and organisational scope of practice and governance.
