Apprenticeship Standard & Occupational Profile

This apprenticeship is for qualified health and social care professionals who want to work as Enhanced Clinical Practitioners (ECPs), delivering a high standard of complex, enhanced care within their field of expertise. Enhanced Clinical Practitioners work across a wide range of settings including hospitals, community services, GP practices, dental services and patient homes, as part of a multidisciplinary team. 

The purpose of this apprenticeship is to prepare apprentices to work as Enhanced Clinical Practitioners, providing high-quality, person-centred care for patients with complex needs. Apprentices will develop the ability to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care using enhanced clinical judgement, diagnostics and interventions within their specialist area of practice.  

Day-to-day duties include undertaking complex clinical assessments, analysing patient information, making evidence-based decisions, developing care plans, and supporting patients, families and carers to manage health conditions. Enhanced Clinical Practitioners also work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contribute to service improvement, support education and training of others, and participate in audit, research and quality improvement activities. 

Apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to operate in challenging, fast-changing clinical environments, including critical thinking, leadership, decision-making and professional accountability. 

 n completion, Enhanced Clinical Practitioners will be able to work independently within their defined scope of practice, take responsibility for clinical decisions, and contribute to the delivery of safe, effective and innovative healthcare services.
