Qualification Overview
FutureQuals’ Level 1 Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics is made up of a single Component and onscreen assessment.
This qualification has been designed to provide Learners with a wide range of mathematical skills that are transferable across various settings, both in-and out-of-work, or education.
At Level 1, Learners are required to complete two sections of the assessment. One section permits the use of a calculator and the other section does not.
Section A is the non-calculator section and Learners are required to answer questions involving underpinning mathematical skills and problem-solving. Section A is worth 25% of the total qualification.
Section B is the calculator section and Learners are required to answer questions involving underpinning mathematical skills and problem-solving. Section B is worth 75% of the total qualification.
Mathematical problem solving is a core element of Level 1 Functional Skills Qualification in Mathematics. Underpinning mathematical skills and knowledge will also be tested in its own right. Underpinning skills are defined, as part of this qualification, as the ability to do maths when not as part of a problem.
